Yelp Elite

Yes, that guy in the picture is me, about a decade(ish) old minus ANY gray hair. For three years in a row, I was a Yelp elite –  a community knighted by the Yelp mothership for their well-written reviews & high quality tips.

I wanted to be a Yelp Elite. I liked food and writing, and now I get invited to special events for being able to combine both? Sign me up! And here, I did things which are not aligned with the person I have become today and continue to evolve into.

I’m definitely not proud of the 3 (or lower) star reviews I have given on Yelp or other sites. And truth be told, all of the above was driven by my then fragile ego which was rubbed the ‘wrong’ way because of bad service or food and of course, I had to express my vitriolic diatribe on a platform where I was part of the bourgeoisie.

As you can see I stopped writing reviews at the end of 2016 and even though I hadn’t fallen into the rabbit hole then, better sense came to me and I’m thankful I didn’t spew any more garbage (Yes, it was time!).

I realized that I’m Nobody to review anyplace or anyone in any light. Eventually, I was drawn to giving only positive reviews to small mom and pop shops with the intent of growing their business or calling out a particular employee in any establishment in order for them to get a promotion/raise.

While I don’t review anything I don’t have something positive to say about, I just don’t visit an establishment again if my personal experience wasn’t great. Simple!

Oh, and my Yelp profile? I didn’t want its energy out there and obliterated it at the turn of the year along with other decluttering activities. I feel fucking fantastic having done that!

Decluttering is life changing – be it your emotions, habits, mobile phone apps or your work desk, it simply needs to be done and it needs to be done NOW! Only after completely cleaning out the unnecessary, unimportant and incessant (yes, I know they all are synonymous but I am trying to make a very important point here so…) elements out of your life can you empower yourself with the joy of not just being in the present but also being the best version of Yourself!

So, Happy Decluttering!

PS: I still like my #curry with #craftbeer#biryani & #hazyIPA anyone?
